About this painting

This was a plein air painting at San Luis Rey Mission in Oeanside. The mission is beautiful with many subjects to paint. I have always wanted to paint a cemetery, so I found a quiet spot and painted this scene that spoke to me. The headstone next to me was for a child that lived for 7 years in early 1900s. As I painted, I thought about her story and the history that this place carries within.
